Challenges Themes for 2017
'Block' themes in January, March, May, July, September and November
'Non-block' themes in February, April, June, August, October and December
The 'Non-block' challenges were:
Finished size: 15in x 12in miniature quilt. Landscape or portrait orientation.
February - Black and white and one bright April - Memories June - Journeys
August - Light October - Song Title December - Ugly Fabrics
The 'Block' challenge is to make a series of half square triangle blocks in your own choice of light/dark colours. This could be all from scraps or a colour theme - think of the end result you would like. Over the year the six bimonthly challenges, if joined together, would be enough for a cot/lap quilt, or with added sashing and borders (and more blocks?) a bigger quilt. The blocks should be 12 inches finished made up from sixteen 3 inch squares, each with a 1/4" seam allowance added (eg 3.5" and 12.5"). Cut squares 3 and 7/8 inches, place a pair light and dark right sides together. Draw a diagonal line across the square (corner to corner) and sew 1/4" away on each side of the line. Cut along the drawn line and press open the two squares. Make lots of these and have fun making different patterns1

The Individual Challenge for 2016 was to design and make a series of 13 by 10 inch miniatures on the following themes. Each was to be finished with binding or you could leave a raw edge to join them up using the 'quilt as you go' method to make a bigger throw or a wallhanging.
May - My House June - Mainly Green and Blue July - Birds August - Favourite Flower
September - Autumn October - Quilt a Word November - Colour Collision December - Self Portrait
