Health and Safety
- The committee will maintain an up to date risk assessment for the activities of the group. This will be reviewed every two years or following an incident or significant change in the group’s activities. A specific risk assessment will be prepared for events such as an exhibition.
- The committee will implement the risk controls identified in the risk assessments including providing suitable information and supervision for any inexperienced or young members. The Chair is responsible for organising appropriate first aid arrangements for the group.
- We all accept that we will take care of our own health and safety and that of others, for example, when using sewing machines and sharp cutting implements.
- We will report any accidents or injuries that occur during a group meeting or sewing day to a committee member.
- We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through the use of email and our website rather than through paper communications. We aim to share transport to events where possible.
- We aim to improve recycling rates through the use of members’ sales tables and through donations of fabric for our charity quilts.
- We hold personal data about our members solely for communication purposes within the group. We do not transfer this data outside our own membership. Everyone is asked if they are willing to share their contact details with other members of the group. The Secretary holds the up to date membership forms.
- We all accept a responsibility to look after the contact details of other members safely and to destroy old contact lists in a secure manner.
- We aim to provide the opportunity for all members to participate in group activities and to develop their quilting skills irrespective of their background or their prior experience.
- We all accept our role in welcoming new members, treating everyone with fairness and respect, and developing friendships and good working relationships with others in the group.
- Anyone may raise a suggestion about any of these policies or report an issue to a committee member. Any issues raised will be treated in confidence.
